The beautiful watercolor that artist Jennie Yip created for the launch of StyleLingua is designed to illustrate a core premise of our services: an empowering form of personal harmony can be achieved when clothing choices are based on: who you are, what you do, and your goals.
Together, these form the foundation of your StyleLingua factors, your SLF.
Today’s world offers us an often-overwhelming array of clothing options. By understanding your SLF, you gain the clarity to make wardrobe choices that serve you well and enable you to express your best self. To visualize this concept, we created Caroline and Anna, the two figures pictured in the illustration. We then dressed each one according to the SLF factors we had imagined for them.
Who you are:
Your physical traits, as well as your personal preferences and style.
Because SLF is based in part on personal and physical traits, Caroline and Anna are each illustrated with their own distinct characteristics and features. We then used elements of design, such as color, pattern, texture and shape to select optimal wardrobe choices and insure harmony for each woman.
For instance, Caroline is of average height; her hair and skin have subtle, warm undertones. Anna is taller than average, with dark hair that is in striking contrast with her cool, fair skin undertone. Both women exemplify simplicity with their carefully considered clothing choices. Caroline’s outfit reveals a preference for polished, tailored separates, while Anna prefers a softer, but still polished, silhouette.
What you do:
Your interests, job, hobbies, responsibilities and commitments.
Whether they are heading to a cultural performance, business meeting, or some other event, Anna and Caroline’s clothes reflect intentional choices that suggest assurance and savvy. Yet because we have imagined each with her own preferences, we’ve dressed them to support a personalized style and express their confidence in individual ways. That’s how we’ll work with you, to help you express your best self.
Your goals:
Your plans, purpose, aspirations, and needs.
Big or small, short term or long term, defining your goals is key to building an optimal wardrobe at any stage in life. While Anna’s and Caroline’s goals are not identified, the artist clearly has them moving higher, ascending with each step. This is a picture of thriving. We can help you build a wardrobe that supports you and helps you thrive as well.
How SLF Comes to Life: Painting the picture.
By combining elements of design with Caroline’s SLF, we chose to portray her dressed in a simple two-piece jacket and pants, in a warm, neutral monochromatic palette. Specific considerations for Caroline:
- A spicy, neutral hue harmonizes with her light auburn hair and warm complexion.
- Uninterrupted color from head-to-toe visually creates length and strength.
- The softly shaped yet fitted proportions of Jacket and pants flatter her figure.
- A Jacket with texture and trim adds emphasis and gravitas to her upper body.
- A few green accessories add a colorful accent to her neutral outfit.
- Gold jewelry glows against her warm skin undertone.
- A handbag with enough room to hold what she will need, including a laptop.
- Stylish, low-heeled shoes that allow her to move comfortably and with assurance.
Doing the same for Anna, we selected a dress that provides a simple “one and done” approach to dressing. Specific considerations for Anna:
- The bold pattern dress harmonizes with her striking raven hair and fair complexion.
- A flattering fit-and-flair silhouette complements her figure.
- A simple black belt provides a visual break in the bold pattern.
- A few more black accessories support Anna’s preference for simple, classic style.
- Silver jewelry shines against her cool skin undertone.
- A handbag with enough room to hold what she will need, including a laptop.
- Stylish, low-heeled shoes that allow her to move comfortably and with assurance.
Picture Your SLF.
Now that you understand a bit about how StyleLingua works, can you imagine how you would be dressed if you were joining Caroline and Anna in this picture? Where would you all be going? What would you be doing? (Anna is holding something written in her hand. Is it a speech, a program, or something else?) There is a lot that is open to interpretation in this illustration, but their wardrobe choices provide clues. Much the way that knowing your SLF will help you gain the clarity to make the wardrobe choices that express your best self.
